NBR® Hair Extensions FAQ

Cost, damage, how long they last, who is a candidate, and how to care for them. The questions we answer in the chair every week.

What are NBR hair extensions?
Natural Beaded Rows® are an exclusive hair extension technique created and taught by Danielle K. White of DKW Styling. Extensions are placed in full rows using a bead and string technique, with wefts sewn into tracks that blend seamlessly into your natural hair, then customized in cut, color, and style.
Do NBR extensions damage your hair?
No. There is no tape and no glue, and there are minimal contact points with your natural hair, which promotes hair health rather than working against it. In most cases NBR helps improve the long-term health of your natural hair because it is lightweight and needs minimal care.
How long do they last, and how often do I come in?
With proper care, application, and upkeep, Natural Beaded Rows are intended to last four to six months. Adjustments and re-tightening are recommended every six to eight weeks.
How long does the appointment take?
Color, cut, and installation happen in one appointment, about three to four hours. The installation is pain free, and removal takes about five minutes because there is no glue or tape.
Can I wear my hair up?
Yes. The beads stay hidden whether your hair is worn straight, curled, or pulled into a ponytail. You can throw your hair in a ponytail and head to the gym without checking the mirror.
Is it real hair?
Yes. REMY Hand-Tied Hair is 100% human hair with the cuticle intact, pre-rooted and pre-toned for natural blends. It is double drawn, so the hair is the same length from roots to ends and blends with all hair lengths, even chin-length bobs.
Why don't you post how much it costs?
Pricing varies by client. It depends on how much extension hair you need, the length you want, and the custom coloring involved. Your investment covers NBR hair extensions, seamless color, cut, and styling, and your quote is discussed during your consultation. What goes into the investment.
Who is a candidate?
NBR works beautifully for thin or fine hair, and for anyone who wants more volume or more length. Your hair should be shoulder length at minimum. The application is the fastest way for us to tell you honestly whether it is the right fit.
Can I wear extensions if I have hair loss?
Often, yes. Postpartum, stress, and dietary hair loss are things Nina works with every week. It depends on the pattern and the health of the hair at the root, which is exactly what the consultation is for. Extensions for thin hair.
How do I wash and care for them?
Wash one to two times a week depending on the natural oils in your hair, brush from the ends up, sleep in a loose braid, and use the products we recommend at your appointment. We go through all of it before you leave. Extension hair care 101.
How do I book?
Extensions start with the online application, then an in-person consultation. Color, cuts, and blowouts book by phone or text at 415-460-6300, Tuesday to Saturday.
