NBR® Home Maintenance Plan
Your extensions are an investment. How you care for them at home decides how long they last and how good they look.
Washing
We recommend washing only one to two times a week.
- Brush the extensions out with a WetBrush before you get in the shower. This helps prevent deep tangles and matting.
- Use a sulfate free shampoo to prolong your hair color and the extension color. Shampoo gently between the rows. No vigorous scrubbing.
- Use a leave-in and oil combo before brushing.
- When brushing wet hair, always hold the track and start from the ends, working up toward the scalp. Hold the hair in one hand, pinched like a ponytail, and brush.
- If you must wash before bed, fully dry the base of your rows. Wet hair tied up in a bun or ponytail causes breakage and can create a mildew smell, which means new hair.
- Microfiber towels are friction free and will not be harsh on your hair. Gently squeeze out excess water and blot. Do not rub, and do not turn your head upside down to roll your hair in the towel.
What never touches your extensions
- Dry shampoo, any brand. It dries the extension hair out and makes it brittle, causing frizz and breakage. Use it on your natural hair only.
- Drugstore hair products. Sub-par products tangle and mat extensions. Your hair is an investment, so your products should be too.
- Moroccan and Argan oil, alcohol, sulfates, parabens.
- Sunscreen. Move your hair out of the way before you apply. It discolors the hair and means replacing it.
- Hard or well water. It can change the color of the hair and cause matting and tangling. Use a Raindrop system to purify your water source, or wash with bottled, purified or distilled water.
Styling
- Air dry about 80 percent of the way. If blow drying, avoid tugging at the extensions with a round brush or comb. Use your hands and fingers until almost completely dry.
- This applies at blow dry bars too. Tell whoever styles your hair not to round brush from start to finish. A round brush with light tension is fine for the last few minutes, to smooth your hair and the extension hair.
- If curling, smooth the hair once or twice through the iron before placing curls. It gives a more polished look, closes the cuticle, and prolongs the hair.
- Always use a medium to low heat setting with every tool.
- Always use a heat protectant. It extends the life of your extensions and keeps your natural hair healthy.
- If you are using a flat iron or curling iron, invest in good quality tools.
Sleeping
- Brush the extension hair out, then put it in a loose ponytail or braid.
Swimming
- If you swim regularly, wear a swim cap.
- Before swimming, wet the hair with clean water and add conditioner to the extension hair, starting about two inches down from the ends. Braid it up, then put the cap on.
- No cap with you? At a minimum, wet the hair, apply conditioner, and braid or clip it up. Try to keep your hair above water.
- Shampoo and condition as soon as possible afterward.
Sun and beach
- Use a hat or bandana to cover your hair in the sun. It prevents drying out and color fading.
Good to know
- After a few washes the extension hair expands and takes on a more realistic texture.
- If you notice excess tangling or shedding, contact your stylist. These are quick fixes when addressed right away.
- You can live a normal, even active life with NBR®. Just treat the extensions gently to keep them looking their best, the longest.
We hope you love your new Natural Beaded Rows® extensions as much as we do.
